The Baltimore Education and Cultural Institute, Inc. presents its 1st annual Youth Talent Showcase (YTS) scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Reedbird Park in Cherry Hill, Baltimore, Maryland.  The YTS provides a venue for Baltimore’s youth to show off their creative talents.

Auditions will be held Saturday, June 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at a location to be announced.

Talented Baltimore youth age 5 to 18 may audition in the following performance categories:

instrumental, dancing, singing, rapping, comedy, drama, and poetry.  Top auditioned acts will be selected to perform at the BECI - 1st annual Youth Talent Showcase.

ELIGIBILITY:  Baltimore area Youth ages 5 – 18 may apply.  YTS organizers are committed to providing a fun and non-competitive forum for the encouragement, development, and discovery of young amateur entertainers.  Performances must be original and authentic, and all types of talent are encouraged.

APPLICATION PROCESS & DEADLINE: NO APPLICATION FEE.  Submit completed application with audition audio or videotape, photographs, complete description of talent no later than Monday, June 22, 2009.  Limited stage times, unfortunately means that all applicants cannot be accepted, so AUDITIONS will be scheduled for June 27, 2009. 

SHOWCASE INVITATIONS:   If selected, detailed information will be provided to invited performers regarding location, date and time of performances.   Final performance invitations from the YTS will begin on July 1, 2009.  All acts/performances should be no more than 5 minutes and family-friendly for an audience of all ages.  Adult content, language or situations must be avoided.  Singing along with a professional performer on CD or tape is discouraged.

SHOWCASE PRIZES:   This is a non-competitive event.  Performers will receive recognition for participation and citizenship.  Professionals will be on hand to provide mentoring and networking assistance for all interested participants.  A panel of professional artists and performers will be assembled in a 90 minute panel discussion prior to the showcase at 11:00am on July 12, 2009 to answer participant questions.

2009 YOUTH TALENT SHOWCASE (YTS)

OVERVIEW

Performances:  All performances will be scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2009

Performance Times:  Invited performers will be notified beginning  July 1, 2009 of their scheduled performance time and must be at the performance site at least 30 minutes before their scheduled time to perform.  Registering with the Performer Check-In Staff is imperative to document on-time arrival.  The YTS schedule includes slots for 17 performers beginning at 1:05pm every 10 minutes until 3:45pm.  Within each 10 minute period performers must set-up, perform and break-down their equipment.

YTS Rules:

1.  Invitations are nontransferable.  No one is allowed to perform without a YTS invitation.

2.  Performers are reminded this is an outdoor show and that the weather can be uncooperative.  Some performances may be cancelled at a moment’s notice due to inclement weather.

3.  No heavy equipment is available to performers to assist with performance setup.

4.  Performances must provide a sufficient number of able personnel to assist in the loading/unloading of equipment, as well as the setting up of equipment onstage.  No vehicle entry is allowed into the Park during YTS hours.

5.  Parking is available on Reedbird Ave. and a limited number of parking spaces are available in and around the park.  The YTS will attract a great number of people, please plan accordingly for the amount of time it will take to get to the Reedbird Park performance site.

6.  The YTS is family oriented.  All performers and their performances must be in keeping with this atmosphere.  The YTS Director shall have the sole discretion to cancel a performance which violates the YTS rules.  Performers shall not display or offer any obscene or indecent entertainment.

7.  YTS prohibits promotional material from being distributed unless approval is obtained in writing from the YTS Director.

8.  Only the YTS and BECI Inc. are permitted to sell YTS logo T-shirts, sweatshirts, balloons and caps.  Any other similar items sold or given away by any other organization would be considered commercially produced and cannot be sold or given away at the Showcase without prior written approval by BECI, Inc..

9.  The YTS will not be responsible in any way for any damages to or theft of equipment of any participating person(s) or performer(s).

10. Pets are not allowed in the park during the showcase.

(VCR, DVD, CD & cassette tapes accepted.  YTS will also accept digital files and links to web sites with performances.  Please note, Audition Tapes, CDs, Photographs, DVDs, etc. submitted with entry application will not be returned)
